A Passion For Sport
Peter has had a long, successful and diverse professional career, encompassing, among others, sports administration, journalism and business. Sport, however, has always been a passion in his life, ever since accompanying his father to a football match at the tender age of four.
Most of his life has been linked to sport, even after broken bones ended - more or less - a low profile, but immensely enjoyable passion for athletic endeavour, encompassing such diverse disciplines as football, swimming, orienteering, squash, ice skating and tennis.
With an active role drastically reduced, but armchair enthusiasm not entirely satisfying, a plunge into sports administration, journalism, marketing and public relations seemed the natural choice for Peter. First in a succession of amateur offices, then by progressing through to various media outlets, his life as a professional sports administrator began with the appointment to the position of inaugural General Manager of Basketball NSW (then the NSW Basketball Association). More than half a decade of hard work followed, coordinating and, in many respects, spurring on the effort to establish the solid foundations of public recognition for this wonderful sport which is now taken for granted in Australia.
After a successful detour into business life, it was nothing more than a natural pattern of evolution when Peter included basketball, alongside soccer and tennis, in the list of sports with which SCOTT INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT (SIM) (known as Scott Communications during its early days) became involved. Having always enjoyed hoops, ever since attending European Championship matches as a small boy in his native Budapest, played in an outdoor football stadium in front of 40,000 fans on that memorable occasion, basketball was and is the main attraction of of the athlete management business for Peter. And within basketball, he was strongly drawn to getting involved with the women's game, wanting to become involved in the creation of rewarding professional career paths for the many outstanding, talented players who had no hope of making a living out of their abundant skills.
It is good to be able to state that, to a very large extent SIM has succeeded in its aims and endeavours - and we're not done yet. Far from it!
It is important to acknowledge that it was only the hard and successful work of wife Frances in her own Australian-based retail business, which made it financially viable for Peter to follow his dream. Now it seems as nothing more than a natural progression, that Frances has become a full time partner in the work of SIM.
Hands On Management
If a player has talent, ambition, discipline and determination, associating with SIM provides a very good chance of commencing a professional career at a level appropriate to the his or her ability. And we have now outgrown the boundaries of the country where Peter first launched his venture. Citizens of countries as diverse, as Finland, Sweden, the United States, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Israel and Croatia have benefited from the hard work and know how of
Peter Scott. And the list will only lengthen during the
years to come, due in large part to the fact, that SIM
is run on a strictly ethical basis. It is a business which
considers its clients partners in a common labour of
love, unlike many fly by night operators who consider
athletes as not much more than commodities, moved
around at their managers' whims and fancies.
Another major difference between SIM and a lot of other
management operations is that we are not interested in
big, fancy offices at high priced addresses. We provide
substance, rather than show. Not for SIM the almost
total dependence on getting the odd phone call from
someone who may have happened upon a website
containing many hundreds, sometimes thousands of
players' names.
We are acutely aware that ours is a position of trust and always act accordingly!
We get out there and do the work ourselves! We spend a large part of our year in establishing contacts and personal friendships with many of the movers and shakers of the international game, establishing a relationship of trust. Several years of hard work, which has seen Peter criss cross the Continent many times, has led to the current status of SIM where its recommendations are considered by clubs in the sure knowledge, that anyone he recommends to a particular club is of a level of accomplishment, which will ensure the player is highly likely to be of a standard suitable to that level of basketball. To put it into sporting terminology - we have an excellent batting average.
And the growing status of SIM in international circles is attested to by the fact, that clubs recommend us to each other, and many of our talented clients were referred to SIM by other athletes already on our books. We could get no greater compliment than that.
Its a big, wide and challenging world out there - and the past few years have proved that its ready for Peter's and Frances' dream, that brought about the establishment of SCOTT INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT's relentless advance into the front ranks of the wonderful profession of international athlete management.
