Zsuzsa Toth is a member of the outstanding generation of young Hungarian women who have made the small Central European nation into a major European basketball power, both at the national and at the club level.
She was a teammate of the likes of Eszter Ujvari, Andrea Karolyi (of perennial Euroleague power MIZO Pecsi VSK), current national team members Eva Seres (Sopron) and Zsuzsa Hagara (BSE).
And Zsuzsa stands the comparison with ease. A skilful, wily, athletic forward, with a good eye for shooting opportunities, she has suffered from playing with a less than accomplished team last season. She did - and does - the job for her team, but had to put her personal ambitions for excellence on hold, while filling roles which are unnatural for her. And, typically, Zsuzsa did just that for the common good.
Commencing her basketball at the tender age of 10 under the watchful eyes of legendary coach Ujvari Miklosne - the mother of Eszter - with Ganz-Mavag, Zsuzsa quickly bevcame one of the highly regarded players of her generation.
She has played with a range of top clubs in her homeland, winning the Hungarian League championship with Tungsram while still a junior player, a Hungarian Cup bronze medal with Szekszard in 2000 and championship fourth place two seasons ago. Other clubs to benefit from Zsuzsa's services to date include Ferencvaros, Szolnok, DKSK Miskolc and Soproni Postas.
With Tungsram, she honed her skills further with master coaches like Sandor Tursics, Matyas Varga, Istvan Vertetics and Istvan Kertesz. It was under Tursics that Zsuzsa and Tungsram won the Hungarian Championship gold medal during the early 90s. The same season she doubled up with the club's U16 squad to win the Hungarian Junior Cup, with Budapest tabloids dubbing Zsuzsa Queen of the Air.
After her stint at Tungsram, Zsuzsa garced the squads of outstanding clubs loke Szolnok, Ferencvaros and DKSK, spending two seasons with the latter. This was followed by half a season with TF, the club of Hungary's world renowned University of Physical Education, where whe is currently in the final stages of a course which will lead to a Diploma in Recreational Sport.
In 1998 and 1999 she played for Soproni Postas, transferring to current club Atomeromu Szekszard in the summer of 1999. Zsuzsa was named the outstanding basketball player of Tolna County for the last two years and MVP of the traditional pre-season international tournament in Szekszard, the Sio Cup.
If your club wants a player with that elusive mixture of natural born talent, tactical and technical know how everyone searches for - Zsuzsa Toth is the basketballer for you.
